This course is ideal for those with little experience with using a computer, who wish to learn the basic skills such as logging on and off, navigating through the computer, creating short documents and using the internet.

With a focus on hands-on, interactive learning, participants will enhance their confidence, communication, teamwork and presentation skills.

Overview

This introductory course will give you the confidence to use a computer or laptop in a supportive and secure environment.

With classes taught based on the learners needs, this course is ideal for those who are new to using computers, or who wish to build upon their existing knowledge. With a strong focus on basic user functions such as creating documents, file maintenance and email communication, this course is a great starting point.

By completing this course, you will learn to:
  • Understand how to operate a computer and its basic functionalities
  • Save files and navigate folders
  • Create and edit simple documents
  • Use the internet effectively and safely

What you will be provided with on completion:
  • A Certificate of Participation
  • A strong foundation to continue developing your confidence, skills & knowledge on a computer

Classes are taught based on the learners needs.

Study Areas include:

  • Keyboard skills
  • Introduction to Microsoft, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Sending and receiving emails
  • Attaching files to email
  • File explorer – creating and managing folders
  • Staying safe online

Students attend 1 day per week.

TUITION FOR THIS CLASS IS FREE!

Our Pre-Accredited and Neighbourhood House Programs incur an annual registration fee of $10 for classes at our Casey Campus. All participants attending this campus must pay this annual, non-refundable registration fee upon enrolment into their first program for the calendar year. This includes hobby programs and social groups. This fee will be charged once per calendar year.

FUNDED FEE ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a full funded place in these courses you must be:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen or
  • a holder of an Australian permanent visa or 
  • an Asylum seeker holding a valid visa that confers eligibility for Skills First training

CONCESSION FEE ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a concession fee, a valid concession card showing the name of the person enrolling in the course must be provided at the time of enrolment. FLC may request a copy of the card at the time of enrolment. Concession is applied at the time of enrolment and cannot be applied partway through the course.
