Overview

Ideal for parents with children in school, these classes cover everything needed to improve English for daily life, school, and work. Learn how to have conversations, handle everyday tasks, participate in school activities and conversations and prepare for study or training.

The course is delivered locally in group sessions by experienced teachers who are dedicated to helping students succeed. Practice speaking with others in the group and get personalized feedback to improve skills.

Learning digital skills is included in this class.

By completing this course, you will learn to:
  • Develop an understanding of the English language
  • Build the skills and confidence required to continue to learn English
  • Confidently communicate in English

This course is aimed at basing the English language around everyday life activities such as making doctor’s appointments, contacting emergency services (ambulance, police, fire), renting a house, completing Centrelink forms, and preparing them for further study and more…

Some goals for students include:

  • Be able to use verbal communication to share knowledge and skills with other class members
  • Be able to listen to and follow basic instructions
  • Read and interpret basic documents they would use daily
  • Be able to read and write simple sentences
  • Be able to read and understand timetables for public transport
  • Be able to participate in group discussion and role plays confidently, including the taking of different roles such as group leader
  • Be able to listen to and follow basic instructions
  • Digital skills

Dates: 6 October – 3 December

GROUP 1 – Beginners / Intermediate
Tuesdays, 9.00am – 11.00am
Thursdays, 9.00am – 11.00am

GROUP 2 – Beginners / Intermediate
Wednesdays, 12.30pm – 2.30pm
Thursdays, 1.00pm – 3.00pm

GROUP 3 – Intermediate
Wednesdays, 9.00am – 12.00pm

TUITION FOR THIS CLASS IS FREE!

 

Our Pre-Accredited and Neighbourhood House Programs incur an annual registration fee of $10. All participants must pay this annual, non-refundable registration fee upon enrolment into their first program for the calendar year. This includes hobby programs and social groups. This fee will be charged once per calendar year.

FUNDED FEE ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a full funded place in these courses you must be:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen or
  • a holder of an Australian permanent visa or 
  • an Asylum seeker holding a valid visa that confers eligibility for Skills First training

CONCESSION FEE ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a concession fee, a valid concession card showing the name of the person enrolling in the course must be provided at the time of enrolment. FLC may request a copy of the card at the time of enrolment. Concession is applied at the time of enrolment and cannot be applied partway through the course.
